Vernissage: 06.03.2020, 18:00

Our exhibition cannot pretend to explain Valoch’s prolific work, nor place it in the political and artistic context of his time. However, what we are exhibiting sums up fairly well the essence of his work, which is that of extracting meaning from life and of sharing it. It is not difficult to understand his work which, despite its graphic reduction, is generous because it leaves its interpretation open to all. His works often animate our thoughts so vividly that they provoke smiles and the joy of abandoning ourselves in spaces that quickly become familiar to us even if we had never been there. His works are joyfully serious and profound. They are like a friend who suggests to us in a word or two a thought that we make our own. As when Valoch printed in 1973 “fragment of a book that does not exist” on a single sheet, which was at the same time the title of the work. Jiří Valoch is good for us. Raphaël Lévy
