The suspended kiss (tribute to Tarkovski)
2022

Concrete, clementine sewn with 14-carat gold wire, freshwater pearl, 50 x 50x 5.

A dry clementine repaired with a golden thread. The space that has been created with time between its skin and the curls, now too loose, describe the absence of its fullness. Placed between two fragments of gray concrete, it is placed in suspension in the fault. The organic fragility of the fruit is opposed to the cold stability of the concrete. The juxtaposition of opposites confuses the interpretation of the movement: elevation or fall, opening or crushing? Ivan’s Childhood (1962) by Andrei Tarkovsky (1932- 1986) offers an unexpected kissing scene between a man and a woman, both army officers,in a forest of a country at war. Sounds of shooting. A trench. With his legs the officer forms a bridge over the ditch. He lifts the young woman while embracing her. She remains suspended in the void for the time of a kiss. A burst of humanity.
